@itweetmeat has excellent info about a lot of misinformation and the correct information.
Should you mix personal and work tweets or facebook info on the same site? You appear to be more rounded if you show the different parts of your life. Often you may get response from people who are outside your regular scene.
If someone requests to friend you how do you decide yes or no? Some people friend people who are friends of friends. Some are very selective.
"If we just apply all the things we should do in other settings, we have to realize we are in a glass house and act accordingly."
An excellent place to put you social settings is in your eXtension profile.
Comments on a blog are left open and the bad ones are overpowered by the good ones.

Ask and Expert Widget

Roundtable hosted by Jonathan Davis - Auburn University

Several states have already implemented this on their web site by county. There has to be at least one person managing it so that if a question does not get answered in 48 hours, it is reassigned to some one else.
Alabama has questions go to the county OP and they route the questions to the appropriate agent.
Most use it similar to a phone call, just another way to get the call.
Agents have to sign up to be sent questions.
Ohio State is using wranglers to send the question out to the agent.
A selling point is when a question is answered, it is stored in the master database and you can modify it to fit your direct question.
Need to train agents about eXtension as well. Then train them about the widget.
Texas has all of their agent training documents and videos on their web site www.tamu.edu/ittoolbox. They are available to be taken and modified by anyone. Don't re-invent the wheel. http://ittoolbox.tamu.edu/

Building a presence in virtual worlds

Presented by Larry Havenstein - Kansas State University
Found on Google Wave at with:public netc2010

What do you want to do in the world?
Second Life Grid
Teen Grid
OpenSim Grid
Blue Mars Online

Second Life - Easy, low learning curve, available, easy to get Griefed, Content not secure, Have to be 18, Objects lack realism

SL Teen Grid - Is like Second Life, Only teens and approved adults, Has all problems of SL, Rules are so restrictive that often it won't work for youth projects

OpenSim - Is like SL, Can be run on your servers, Age is decided by local owner, Public Grids, No security, Griefing is easier, Many SL features missing, Never Ending Beta

Blue Mars - Build with 3D modeling tools, Better Details, allows teens, high security, locally cached, more agents, building takes extra knowledge, is still in development, local caching requires updates

Most building is done in Sketchup from Google then imported out to Blue Mars programs and finally to the online dities.

What do you do with a Careless User

Presenter - Scott Wilson Oklahoma State University
Available on Google Wave - with:public netc2010

Careless Users Credo
Never Change Passwords
Password will be my dog's name
I will use same password everywhere
Any Phishing is legitimate
all popups are let=git
Updating is what other people do
my actions do not affect anyone

The careless user will always fall prey to parasites because he does not have the perception to penetrate the deception.

Perception VS Deception

Perception requires that we adopt a posture of awareness about our computing environment to be aware of the predators.

It requires defensive computing.

Barriers to Defensive Computing
1) Entertainment Attitude
2) Sense of being overwhelmed
3) Lack of understanding consequences/Lack of sense of Responsibility
4) "Mysterious" nature of information technology

Overcoming the Barriers
Education
Documentation
Isolation
Evolution/attrition

OSU's Solutions

Training for Facebook Twitter and others
Safety Training required once a quarter
Partnering with other Universities
Dawning of a new era of understanding between users and techs

The Careful Users Credo
Understand password security
Spot phishing emails and not reply to them
Others.

Presenters - The Ohio State University Guys
Available on Google Wave - with:public netc2010

Johnny Lee Chung came up with the idea for this smartboard. He has a video that explains this at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s5EvhHy7eQ
WII remote has to be set up to the side so that your body does not block the signal.
LED has to be wired correctly. On the LED the short end is negative.
http://johnnylee.net
WII remote has Bluetooth in it that connects to the laptop.
Calibration software is on Johnny Lee's site
You can use up to 4 LED pens at one time.

You can use a projector shining on a desktop to do the same thing, or even directly on a laptop screen to make it seem to be a tablet.

Don't bother me with the latest thing that will make my life easier: What we can learn

or - What we can learn from brain science
Presenter - Jerold R. Thomas The Ohio State University
http://drop.io/NETC2010Cognitive and on the NETC 2010 Google Wave with:public netc2010

1) Humans structure new information to fit existing beliefs
2) Mental Work is hard work
Do your focused work when you are rested.
3) Multi-tasking is usually counter-productive
4) We have short attention spans and memory
Use stories to relate to audience experiences

Planners tend t
o overvalue the plan or product and users tend to undervalue the plan

Improving your Powerpoint Presentation

Presenter Stan Skrabut
@skrabut #UWCES and #netc2010
Presentation at http://www.slideshare.net/skrabut/improving-your-power-point-presentations-by-stan-skrabut
Available on Google Wave - with:public netc2010

You want your audience to remember what you presented. It goes back to science and research. People can only work with 3-4 bits of info at any one time.
Overwhelming viewers with info does not aid learning:break it down.
Info is processed in two channels - visual and verbal.
Verbal channel is processed easier.
One idea per slide is easy to digest.
Use complete sentences to guide thought: This increases learning.
Use a simple graphic that ties the thoughts together

Recommended books - Beyond Bullet Points, and The Backchannel by Cliff Atkinson

Use Word template to create slides. Template is from book.

Use notes section to put in all the great info instead of putting it in a slide. Print them out and use them as handouts.

Add pictures

During presentation:
Step into the screen so attention will not be split
Use a presenter feature of Powerpoint and keep a small screen in front of you.
Use a remote control.
Keep slides simple. do not give into temptation of givine goo much info.
Make sure everything works.
Plan for problems.
Practice, Practice,Practice.

The three elements of your presentation: headline, sentance, graphic.
You should encourage a backchannel (Twitter, facebook, etc)
